From Pike Place Market, to the Space Needle, to Chihuly Garden and Glass, there are countless tourist spots to visit on your next trip to Seattle, including dozens of allergy-friendly restaurants! Having never visited Seattle before my 21st birthday trip, I didn’t know what to expect from restaurants regarding allergy awareness. However, after the first day, I was floored by the level of care restaurants provided to my food allergies and how many unique and safe options there were to eat. From dedicated nut-free restaurants to top 9 allergen free bakeries, from plant-based ice cream shops to gluten-free breweries, Seattle has a place for everyone, regardless of allergies. Included in this guide is a list of spots that I personally visited in Seattle as well as descriptions about their allergy practices. Whether you’re merely brainstorming spots for your next trip or are planning a visit to Seattle in the near future, I hope this allergy-friendly Seattle guide is able to provide some recommendations for where to eat safely in the Emerald City!
Where We Ate
We ate at a variety of restaurants, ice cream shops, and bakeries across the city! Read the list to learn more about each spot and how they accommodate food allergies. You can also take a look at the Google map below to see where these places are located throughout Seattle!
1. Portage Bay Cafe
With multiple locations throughout the Seattle area, Portage Bay Cafe is known for its superb allergen practices. Some of their amazing allergy features include a detailed allergy binder that lists the top 8 allergens, an online ordering system that marks allergens, and allergy sticks to mark dishes. They’re also a dedicated peanut-free restaurant! As a huge brunch lover, Portage Bay was arguably my favorite spot of the Seattle trip. They make everything in house, so their gluten-free bread is completely safe for nut allergies. Make sure to double check the allergy binder online before ordering as they do have some items with tree nuts and of course let the waitstaff know about your allergies. I loved their classic breakfast sandwich and the gluten-free french toast complete with homemade whipped cream!
2. a/stir
If you’ve never heard of a/stir, formerly Capitol Cider, it’s Seattle’s famous 100% gluten-free and nut-free restaurant! Located in Capitol Hill, it’s well-known for its cider, fun appetizers, and delicious fried chicken. It was so amazing to be able to order anything on the menu. The staff are well-versed in food allergies, so if you have allergies outside of nuts and gluten, check with your waiter to identify what options are safe on the menu. I had their mac & cheese and chicken & waffles for my birthday dinner, and they were both amazing. Make sure to save room for safe dessert! Their caramel brownie was to die for!
3. Molly Moon’s Homemade Ice Cream
Another Seattle spot with multiple locations, Molly Moon’s Homemade Ice Cream is a must if you’re in need of nut-allergy safe ice cream. Their menu includes four featured flavors per month, and all their ice cream flavors are always nut-free! The only nuts in the facility are hazelnuts that can be added as a topping to ice cream. Their menu is clearly labeled with which flavors contain gluten, and they always have several vegan and dairy-free options. Staff will change gloves and get a clean scoop if requested. I stayed away from the open toppings just to be on the safe side but still got their delicious vanilla bean salted caramel sauce which was in its own bottle. It was hard to pick from so many flavors, but I was a big fan of the sweet cream and cold brew!
4. Razzi’s Pizzeria
Well known for it’s extensive menu, Razzi’s Pizzeria prides itself in having the best gluten-free, vegan, and allergy-friendly pizza. While they do have nuts in the kitchen, they have an extremely thorough allergen policy to keep guests with allergies safe! Their gluten-free pizzas, pasta, and calzones are all made in a dedicated prep area in the kitchen, and staff are super knowledgeable about what dishes contain nuts in order to keep customers safe! They have two locations: one in Northwest Seattle and one in Downtown, but both are owned by the same management. Razzi’s is a great spot for a more casual lunch or dinner or for an easy takeout meal.
5. Honest Biscuits
Located one floor beneath the original Starbucks in Pike Place Market, Honest Biscuits is a great spot for delicious breakfast sandwiches. There are no nuts in the area – although I was alerted that some of the biscuits do contain coconut oil if that’s an issue for you. They have 3 different “butterhole” biscuits to choose from: one is gluten-free and one is vegan. You can customize your biscuit sandwich to your liking and choose between different meats, cheeses, and egg. I loved the classic bacon, egg, and cheese!
6. Hello Robin Cookies
If you have nut allergies, you must stop by Hello Robin for 100% nut-free cookies! They have a variety of different cookie flavors and always have several that are gluten-free and dairy-free. Their entire bakery is completely free of peanuts and tree nuts, so there’s no worry of cross-contamination! They also carry flavors of Molly Moon’s ice cream so you can make cookie ice cream sandwiches. I tried their flourless chocolate brownie cookie and oatmeal chocolate chip – both of which were gluten-free and delicious!
7. Nuflours Bakery
Nuflours is another great allergy-friendly bakery in the Seattle area that is dedicated free of gluten and peanuts. While they have several items with tree nuts, everything is labeled clearly for the top 8 allergens + corn. Nuflours staff are also highly educated on each item’s ingredients. I had a cinnamon roll muffin and a pumpkin spice donut, but they had lots of other delicious nut-free options! If you’re planning on stopping by Nuflours, make sure to go in the morning, so you can pick from the widest selection!
8. GhostFish Brewing Company
Arguably one of the most famous gluten-free breweries in the nation, GhostFish Brewing Company is home to delicious food and beer — all 100% gluten-free! While I went in not knowing much about how they could accommodate nut allergies, I was pleasantly surprised to learn they have only one thing that contains nuts on the menu. The vegan tacos are topped with cashew cream sauce, but it is kept completely separate in the kitchen. We split their bacon mac & cheese and fish & chips for lunch and tried a flight of their gluten-free beers. I really enjoyed their cranberry hibiscus beer! Besides lots of fried food, they also have a wide variety of burgers, sandwiches, and salads. They even have several nut-free desserts! I safely had their churros with caramel sauce which were incredible!
9. Askatu Bakery Cafe
This top 9 allergen free bakery in the Belltown area is such a hidden gem! Askatu Bakery Cafe carries a variety of cookies, pastries, baked goods, and savory items that are sold at their storefront on 4th Ave and at local farmer’s markets. Everything is vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, and nut-free and also free of sesame and corn. I tried their pop tart, chocolate chip cookie whoopie pie, brownie, and s’mores bar, but they also had tea cookies, cupcakes, and lots of other whoopie pie flavors. Make sure to double check their hours before stopping, as they are closed some days, but definitely add Askatu to your list of allergy-friendly Seattle bakeries to visit!
10. Domani Pizzeria and Restaurant
Domani Pizzeria in the Queen Anne neighborhood is home to some of the most delicious Italian food I have had. With very few nuts on the menu and options for both gluten-free pasta and pizza, I felt extremely safe dining here! If you are not gluten-free, definitely order their fresh pasta which they make in house every morning. I had their gluten-free carbonara pasta pictured above. We were too full for dessert, but all the options are nut-free, and they have gluten-free chocolate cake! If you’re in the mood for ice cream after, make sure to stop by one of the Molly Moon’s shops which is only several blocks down!
11. Frankie & Jo’s
Another allergy-friendly ice cream, Frankie & Jo’s is a great spot for a wide variety of food allergies! As a 100% vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, and peanut-free facility, anyone with these allergies can safely enjoy anything on the menu. If you have tree nut allergies, you need to exercise a bit more caution; however, it is still possible to safely enjoy a treat! While they have some flavors with cashew and almond milk, the majority are made with coconut and are tree nut-free! Their menu displays symbols noting which flavors are nut-free, and staff has a dedicated nut-free scoop that’s kept in the back to avoid cross-contamination. They make their gluten-free waffle cones from scratch, and they smell and taste phenomenal. I loved the June flavor of the month: gluten-free cookies and cream!
